Hutchinson 4th & 5th Grade Students Learn Engineering Fundamentals through Afterschool Program Collaboration

Pelham Memorial High School Science Scholars Share Engineering Skills with Hutch Students through Paper Airplane Project

Hutchinson 4th & 5th grade students are learning the fundamentals of engineering through a unique afterschool program. The school’s engineering clinic, led by senior Sienna Giuseppe, is providing students with an immersive experience in hands-on engineering lessons. During a recent session on March 21, high school students taught participants about aerodynamics and guided them in designing, creating, and testing paper airplanes. The goal was to create models that could fly for the longest time and cover the greatest distance.

The afterschool program is an excellent addition to Hutchinson’s curriculum, allowing students to explore STEM concepts outside of the traditional classroom setting. The collaboration between high school and elementary students is fostering a sense of camaraderie and mentorship within the school community.

We extend our gratitude to the high school students who have dedicated their time and expertise to inspiring the next generation of engineers at Hutchinson. Their efforts are making a significant impact on the students’ education and providing them with essential skills for future success in the field of engineering.
