At the New York Auto Show, the Kia EV9 takes home the 2024 titles for World Car of the Year and World Electric Car.

In recent years, the Hyundai Group has been a dominant force in prestigious vehicle awards, particularly in the electric vehicle category. Kia and Hyundai vehicles have consistently swept major titles at the World Car of the Year competition. In 2022, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won multiple awards, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in 2023. This year, Kia made a comeback with the EV9 winning the top title at both the World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle awards.

The EV9 was judged by a panel of one hundred automotive journalists from 29 countries, who evaluated vehicles competing for the main prize. To be eligible, vehicles must have production exceeding 10,000 units annually and be available in at least two major global markets. They must also be priced below luxury options in their regions. The EV9 beat out competitors like BYD Seal and Volvo EX30 for the top title.

In addition to its victory in these categories, the EV9 also surpassed other electric vehicles like BMW i5 and Volvo EX30 in terms of performance. Other winners included BMW’s 5 Series and i5 for World Luxury Car and Volvo’s EX30 for World Urban Car.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N emerged as a standout performer among performance cars, winning first place among sixteen other contenders. It beat out competitors like M2 and XM to take home this coveted award. Another surprise inclusion was Toyota Prius which won the 2024 World Car Design of the Year award, edging out finalists such as Ford Bronco and Ferrari Purosangue.

Overall, it is clear that Hyundai Group continues to dominate prestigious vehicle awards due to its commitment to innovation and excellence in electric vehicle technology.
