Identity Theft Resource Center Warns Against Tax Season Scams: Fraudsters Using AI to Target Individuals

The advancement of technology is enabling scammers to exploit Tax Day more easily

The deadline for Tax Day is fast approaching this Monday, and fraudsters are taking advantage of the situation to send out fake letters requesting personal information in exchange for a supposed refund. These letters even include the IRS letterhead, making them appear authentic. The Identity Theft Resource Center, a nonprofit organization that assists victims of scams, warns that advances in technology such as artificial intelligence have made it easier for fraudsters to target individuals.
