Indian Building Contractors Association Exams: Overcoming the High Costs of Airfare with Subsidized Flights

Israeli Ministry of Internal Affairs arranges “air bridge” from India to transport 6,000 construction workers

Over 23,000 Indians applied for the Israeli Building Contractors’ Association exams, resulting in 8,000 individuals being selected. However, only a small percentage of these selected workers were able to make it to Israel.

The government has now formed an inter-ministerial commission to investigate the reasons for this situation. The commission discovered that the primary obstacle was the high cost of airfare, which amounted to $950 per one-way trip. In response to this challenge, it was decided that the Population and Migration Authority would coordinate partially subsidized charter flights for 6,000 workers during April and May.

The government’s initiative aimed to address the high cost of air travel, which had previously prevented many selected workers from reaching their destinations in Israel. By providing partially subsidized charter flights, the authorities hoped to increase the number of workers who could take advantage of opportunities in Israel’s construction industry. This decision was made based on the findings of the inter-ministerial commission’s investigation into the challenges faced by Indian workers seeking employment in Israel.
