Indian-American Student Located in US After Disappearing for Several Days

Recently, a 17-year-old Indian-American student named Ishika Thakore was found after going missing in Frisco. The Frisco police had sought the public’s help in locating her, and after posting a description of her on social media, they confirmed that she had been located. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old student from Hyderabad who was pursuing a Master’s degree in the US was found dead earlier in the week. This unfortunate event adds to a concerning trend of deaths involving Indian and Indian-origin students in the United States.

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been at least 11 reported deaths of Indian or Indian-origin students in the US. Despite these tragic occurrences, the US remains a top choice for Indian students looking to further their education. In the 2022-2023 academic session, over 2.6 lakh Indian students migrated to the US, marking a 35% increase from the previous session. This demonstrates the growing popularity of the United States as an educational destination for Indian students.
