Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators: Camp Invention’s Illuminate Program Encourages Kids to Embrace their Creativity

Camp Invention’s STEM program to be featured at Ruth Patrick Science Education Center in the Aiken Area

Camp Invention, a renowned nonprofit summer enrichment program, is set to take place at Ruth Patrick Science Education Center from June 10-14. Sponsored by the National Inventors Hall of Fame® in collaboration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Camp Invention challenges children in grades K-6 to harness their innate curiosity and unleash their creativity to solve problems. Through hands-on activities, the program promotes STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning; cultivates confidence, leadership, perseverance, and resourcefulness; and nurtures entrepreneurship.

Each year, Camp Invention showcases a new curriculum that is inspired by some of the country’s most influential inventors: the National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees. This year’s Illuminate program encourages kids to embrace their ideas and explore their innovativeness through engaging activities such as Let’s Glow, Prototyping Studio, In the Game, and Operation: HydroDrop.

A parent of a 2023 Camp Invention camper shared that the program opened up an entirely new world of creativity for her daughter. She now looks at everyday objects with a fresh perspective and uses a creative thought process to come up with ways to repurpose them. The child is already eagerly anticipating her return to Camp Invention in 2024.

All local Camp Invention programs are led by certified educators who reside and teach in the community. Every year, the program serves over 122 thousand students across the country and collaborates with more than 2500 schools and districts.
