Iranian Protests: Thousands Take to Streets After Attack on Israel in Retaliation for Damascus Consulate Bombing

People in Iran demonstrated in support of the attack

Thousands of Iranians took to the streets in Tehran, waving flags and chanting traditional slogans from the Islamic Revolution of 1979. They were reacting to their country’s attack on Israel, which was a retaliation for a bombing against the Iranian consulate in Damascus. Protests also took place at the University and on Enghelab street, where people expressed their support for Iran’s leaders.

Small congregations also gathered in Isfahan, where people paid tribute to General Mohamad Reza Zahedi, who was killed in the attack on the consulate. The operation was named “Operation True Promise” and aimed to punish Israel for its actions. Before the attacks, some Iranians had hoped for a compromise to prevent war, while others called for a stronger response from Iranian authorities.

The attacks by Iran on Israel were met with concern and preparations in Israel, with the army closely monitoring the situation and preparing for different scenarios. Despite initial threats, people were eventually given the all-clear to leave shelters. The tension between Iran and Israel escalated after the death of a top Iranian general in Damascus. Israeli defense systems repelled the attack on its territory, causing some damage but no serious casualties. Both countries remain on high alert as they closely monitor developments following the incident.
