Israel to Retaliate Against Iran’s Attack on its Territory: Will it Spark a Broader Regional Conflict?

Israel’s Chief of the General Staff asserts that retaliation will follow Iran’s attack

On Monday, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, Herzi Halevi, announced that Israel will retaliate against Iran’s attack on its territory. Despite concerns of a wider regional escalation, Halevi emphasized that Israel will respond to any launch of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones on its land.

According to reports from the Israeli military, Halevi stated that Iran’s goal was to damage Israel’s strategic capabilities. He noted that Iran had launched over 300 projectiles during the recent attack, including drones and ballistic missiles. Although most of these projectiles were intercepted by Operation ‘Iron Shield,’ some minor damage was caused to Nevatim air base in the Negev desert.

Halevi visited Nevatim air base on Monday to inspect the damage caused by Iranian drones during the attack. The Israeli Army confirmed that Iran had launched over 300 projectiles during this incident. Fortunately, most of these projectiles were intercepted before causing any significant harm.

Iran has defended these attacks as a legitimate response and its right to self-defense following an incident where seven members of the Revolutionary Guard were killed in Damascus when Israel bombed its consulate there. However, Israel has accused Iran of using this incident as a pretext for attacking it and has warned that it will not tolerate such aggression in the future.
