Italians’ Easter Celebration Plans: A survey by Ipsos Reveals Trends in Lunch, Travel and Spending

Italians set to spend 2.5 billion on Easter lunch

The survey by Ipsos for Contributions reveals that 65% of Italians will celebrate Easter with a lunch at their own or relatives’ home, while 12% will opt for a restaurant meal and 9% will travel. In contrast to last year, only 56% of Italians plan to spend the same amount, 27% plan to spend more, and 17% plan to save compared to 2023.

Italians are expected to spend an average budget of around 40 euros per person on Easter lunch this year, with those opting to dine at a restaurant expected to allocate an additional 10 euros on top of that budget. This spending level is consistent with last year, with many Italians choosing to celebrate the holiday with family at home or in outdoor spaces like parks.

Traditional Easter foods like chocolate eggs, doves, seasonal vegetables, cured meats, grilled meats, and lamb are expected to be on Italian tables during the festive occasion. In addition to these staples, other popular options include celebrating at friends’ homes or dining out at a restaurant.

When it comes to dining out for Easter Monday, Southern Italians lead the way followed by those in the North West regions. On the other hand, fewer people in the South plan to celebrate with family compared to those in other regions of Italy. Overall, the Easter holiday is a time of celebration and gathering for many Italians who focus on traditional foods and spending time with loved ones.
