Jessica Lange Takes on a New Challenge in ‘Mother Play’: A Family Drama with Celia Keenan-Bolger and Jim Parsons

Jessica Lange is thrilled to unveil the world premiere of Mother Play on Broadway – a new venture for the acclaimed actress

Jessica Lange has had a illustrious Broadway career, playing classic American stage roles with ease. From her debut in 1992 as Blanche DuBois to her Tony Award-winning performance as Mary Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey into Night, Lange has established herself as a versatile and talented actress.

Now, seven years after her last appearance on stage, Lange is taking on a new challenge: the world premiere of a newly written play. In Mother Play, Lange plays the role of Phyllis Herman, alongside Celia Keenan-Bolger and Jim Parsons as her children. The play covers four decades of history and explores the impact of five evictions on a single family.

When asked what she finds relatable about her character, Lange admitted that Phyllis Herman’s decisions are almost incomprehensible to her, as they are so far from her own experiences. Despite the challenging nature of the play, Lange is thrilled to be working with her co-stars, Celia and Jim. Their bond has helped them bring authenticity and depth to their performances onstage.

Lange is excited to create something new with Mother Play and is looking forward to sharing this experience with audiences.
