Oldest man in the world passes away at age 114, just two months before turning 115

Juan Vicente Perez Mora, a 114-year-old Venezuelan man who was certified as the world’s oldest living man in 2022, passed away on Tuesday. His death was confirmed by multiple media reports and Venezuelan government officials. Perez gained his title in February 2022 when he was 112 years and 253 days old, according to Guinness World Records.

Perez was a father to 11 children and, as of 2022, had 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Born on May 27, 1909, as the ninth of ten children, Perez started working in agriculture at the age of five, helping his father and brothers with tasks like sugar cane and coffee harvesting.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro expressed his condolences for Perez’s passing. “Juan Vicente Perez Mora has transcended into eternity at the age of 114 years old,” Maduro said in a statement. “From the town of El Cobre who gave Venezuela the Guinness Record for being the oldest man in the world.” He added that he sends his hug and condolences to Perez’s family and all people from El Cobre and Táchira state where he lived.
