Kelley O’Hara: Retirement Announcement and Farewell to Soccer.

After the 2024 NWSL season, two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Kelley O’Hara announces retirement

Kelley O’Hara, a 35-year-old defender who has had a successful career in soccer, announced that she will be retiring at the end of the 2024 NWSL season. Through Just Women’s Sports, she shared her decision in an article and a special YouTube video called “Kelley on the Street.”

Throughout her illustrious career, O’Hara has played for the USWNT and Gotham FC. After considering the physical toll the sport was taking on her body, she made the difficult decision to retire to ensure she could still play the game she loved as she wanted to.

Reflecting on her decision, O’Hara expressed gratitude for everything she has accomplished in her career and the people she has had the opportunity to play alongside. She has been playing soccer at a high level since she was a child, representing the United States in various tournaments and championships throughout her career.

As she looks to the future, O’Hara is uncertain about what lies ahead. However, she knows that she wants to remain connected to the sport and give back to the next generation of players. While she may not yet know in what capacity she will stay involved in soccer, she is eager to continue growing the game she loves.
