Klay Thompson’s choice to sign with the Dallas Mavericks has caused some dissatisfaction among his family, especially from his father Mychal. Despite hoping that Klay would join the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency, the Mavericks ultimately emerged victorious in the end.
Mychal, who had played for the Lakers and won two championships with them, tried to persuade his son to choose Los Angeles. However, Klay opted for Dallas instead. The decision was challenging for him as he had to choose between two legendary teams – the Warriors and the Lakers.
Thompson’s three-year $50 million deal with the Mavericks marks the conclusion of his successful run with the Warriors. During his time at Golden State, he won four championships alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. While his scoring output last season was not up to par with previous seasons, he still remains a valuable asset to any team that signs him.
Despite initial disappointment, Mychal has come around and is happy that Klay is content with his decision. Although he hoped Klay would finish his career with the Lakers, he respects and supports his son’s choice to join the Mavericks, which gives him an opportunity to play alongside stars like Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving.
