Korneuburg’s Construction Halt: Uncertain Future for Signa Development Group and Its Community Partnership

Korneuburg Shipyard project remains stalled

The construction project at the former shipyard site in Korneuburg, known as the hanging area, has come to a halt. This project was a community effort between Signa and the City of Korneuburg, but it has stalled due to Signa Development’s insolvency. Mayor Christian Gepp stated that the municipality is in contact with the project company, but the next steps are uncertain.

The planned construction project was announced as an “attractive district for living, working, culture, leisure, hotels, and restaurants” in 2021. It aimed to create high-quality living space for 1,400 to 1,700 people on a 15-hectare area along the Danube, with an estimated investment volume of 500 million euros. Signa and the municipality were working on an adaptation of the project in late summer of the previous year.

However, now Hafen Korneuburg Immobilien GmbH & Co KG, a part of the Signa Development Group, is facing an uncertain future. The community has been coordinating on a joint project with Signa for a long time and is now waiting to see how things will proceed according to Gepp.
