Lost and Found: A Heartwarming Tale of a Cat’s Rescue thanks to Microchipping

Couple Sends Cat in Amazon Package by Mistake, Receives it 6 Days Later

A Utah couple’s beloved cat, Galena, was accidentally shipped in an Amazon return package and left without food or water for six days. Carrie Clark noticed her cat missing on April 10 and spent nearly a week searching for her, putting up missing posters around town. The anxiety and stress of not knowing where her pet was were overwhelming for Clark.

Finally, Clark received a text informing her that Galena’s microchip had been scanned. A veterinarian from California called to say they found the cat inside an Amazon return package with five pairs of work boots. The vet explained that the cat had been accidentally shipped in the box. The distance between Utah and California made the situation even more challenging for the couple.

Despite the long journey, an Amazon employee found Galena in a warehouse and took her to the vet. Clark and her husband flew to California to be reunited with their beloved cat. Clark described the reunion as amazing, seeing Galena relax in her arms after the ordeal. Galena was skinny and dehydrated but otherwise unharmed.

The incident highlights the importance of microchipping pets. The American Veterinary Medical Association reports that a third of pets will become lost at some point, but those with microchips are more likely to be reunited with their owners. Clark hopes her story inspires pet owners to consider microchipping their furry companions.
