Marlins End Winless Streak, Fans Breathe Collective Sigh of Relief

Marlins finally break losing streak with first win of 2024 season

The Miami Marlins finally put an end to their winless streak at the start of the 2024 season, securing a 10-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. With an 0-9 record to begin the season, fans were eagerly waiting for their team’s first win. However, Miami is now safe from approaching the MLB record for the worst winless start to a season.

The Marlins ended their drought with impressive performances from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Nick Gordon, who both hit three-run home runs in the first inning. Despite a rough start, Cardinals starter Kyle Gibson pitched well, striking out five batters and allowing seven hits over six innings. Miami pitcher Max Meyer also had a strong performance, allowing just one run and three hits.

Unfortunately for manager Skip Schumaker, the poor start may not bode well for his future with the Marlins. The team reportedly voided his club option for 2025 in contract talks during the offseason, leaving his future uncertain beyond this season.

Looking ahead, Miami will need to improve to prevent matching the worst records through 25 games held by teams like the 2003 Tigers and 2022 Reds, who both went 3-22 in their first 25 games. The team will shift its focus to a three-game series against the New York Yankees, starting Monday in the Bronx.

Marlins fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as their team has secured its first victory of the season. However, they will continue to keep an eye on how their team performs in upcoming games as they look to turn things around and make it back into contention in MLB.
