Mars Science Team Prepares to Begin Drilling Campaign at ‘Lubango’ Fracture Zone on Sol 1317

Sol 1318: Dynamic Rover Testing at Lubango

The team successfully completed the bump on Sol 1317 and is now preparing to begin the drilling campaign at the “Lubango” fracture zone. Following a detailed discussion this morning, it was decided that the plan would involve conducting contact science at three targets near “Lubango.”

After completing the imaging with MAHLI, a short APXS integration will be conducted on the intended drill target. In the evening, another APXS integration will be performed on a target called “Congula,” which is a block of outcrop located adjacent to “Lubango.” The APXS will then be placed on the DRT location for an overnight integration.

It was beneficial to review all potential drill locations today to ensure a smooth and successful drilling campaign. The GSTL will be on duty tomorrow, and the team is looking forward to an exciting week of operations as they work towards achieving their drilling goals.
