Mastercard and UniCredit Partner to Create Accessible Payment Solutions for Blind and Visually Impaired Individuals

Unicredit launches a credit card specifically designed for the blind

Mastercard has partnered with UniCredit to create accessible payment cards for blind and visually impaired individuals. The Mastercard Touch Card design includes lateral engravings that allow users to differentiate between different payment cards by touch, enhancing safety, inclusiveness, and independence for those with visual impairments when making payments online or in stores. Over 30 million blind and partially sighted individuals in Europe will benefit from this innovation, which aims to provide a more accessible payment solution.

UniCredit is committed to ESG principles and has created cards made from recycled PVC with a Mastercard sustainability badge. The company’s Head of Group Payment Solutions, Alberto Palombi, emphasized the importance of offering a simple, inclusive, and sustainable financial experience to customers across Europe through this partnership with Mastercard.

Mastercard Europe President Mark Barnett highlighted the company’s commitment to inclusivity and driving new payment card standards with solutions like the Mastercard Touch Card. By working with partners like UniCredit, Mastercard aims to improve accessibility for all customers through customer-centric solutions. This initiative underscores both UniCredit and Mastercard’s dedication to providing innovative and inclusive solutions that address the diverse needs of customers, promote sustainability, and support the financial well-being of all individuals.
