Matt Ryan Retires from NFL and Joins CBS Sports as Studio Analyst, Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason Say Goodbye to NFL Today

Matt Ryan Joins CBS Sports NFL Studio Show as Longtime Analysts Simms and Esiason Depart

Matt Ryan, after 15 years in the NFL, recently announced his retirement. Following his retirement, CBS Sports has confirmed that Ryan will be joining their team as a studio analyst for NFL Today. As part of this move, long-time hosts Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason will be leaving the show. This announcement was made by the network on April 29, 2024.

Ryan will be joining a team that includes James Brown, Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, and JJ Watt. The former 2016 NFL MVP and four-time Pro Bowl quarterback previously worked with CBS Sports as an NFL game analyst last season and also made appearances in the studio during the playoffs and Super Bowl. CBS Sports president and CEO David Berson praised Ryan’s abilities and expressed excitement at having him join the group.

On the other hand, Simms and Esiason, whose contracts expired after the Super Bowl, will be moving on from their roles on NFL Today. Simms had been with CBS since 1998 and was initially a lead game analyst before transitioning to the studio in 2017. Esiason, on the other hand, had been a part of NFL Today for an impressive 22 years and was the show’s longest-tenured analyst.

While Simms expressed gratitude for his 26-year run with CBS Sports, Esiason will continue working on a New York sports talk radio show simulcast on CBS Sports Network. Berson acknowledged the incredible contributions of both Simms and Esiason to the network’s NFL coverage and thanked them for their dedication and commitment.

Ryan’s impressive career statistics place him in the top 10 in NFL history in passing yards, touchdowns, completions, and attempts. This significant staffing change marks the first big move under the leadership of Berson
