Measles Emerges in DuPage County After Nearly a Decade: What You Need to Know

NBC Chicago reports a confirmed case of measles in a DuPage County resident according to health officials

In DuPage County, a resident has been confirmed to have contracted measles for the first time since 2009. While the source of the infection is still under investigation, it does not seem to be linked to the outbreak in Chicago.

According to health officials, the individual with measles is currently receiving outpatient medical care and is on their way to recovery. No exposure locations have been identified in DuPage County, but several exposure locations in Chicago have been listed from April 2 to April 10.

It’s important for those who are unvaccinated or unsure about their vaccination status and were at the exposure locations in Chicago during the specified dates to take precautions. Those who have been vaccinated against measles are likely protected, but are advised to monitor for symptoms for the next 21 days.

Guidelines on what to do next if you have been exposed and are unvaccinated can be found on Chicago’s measles dashboard. It is recommended that individuals unsure about their vaccination status check their immunization records or consult with their healthcare provider to ensure they are up to date with vaccinations.
