Memorial Health System Awards American Red Cross Grant for Blood Saves Lives Cancer Initiative

Memorial Health receives grant for cancer initiative, saving lives | News, Sports, Jobs

Memorial Health System’s first blood drive of 2024 was held, and the American Red Cross was awarded a $3,000 grant from the Memorial Health Foundation to support their Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer initiative. Sharon Kesselring, executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, expressed her excitement for this partnership with the Health System.

The grant was approved by the foundation’s board of trustees due to the important role that the American Red Cross plays in patient care within the Health System and in the region. The funds will be used to assist with collecting and processing blood products for patients who require them. The American Red Cross collects blood throughout the entire area and makes it available for those fighting cancer when they need it. Blood transfusions can be crucial in cancer treatment, providing relief from symptoms caused by chemotherapy treatments.

Julie Dye and Jill Deming presented the grant on behalf of the foundation at Memorial Health System’s blood drive event. They were pleased to be able to provide this funding to support an organization that is dedicated to saving lives through their work with cancer patients. The next Memorial Health Foundation grant cycle opens on July 1st, and more information can be found online at mhsystem.org/Foundation.
