Meta Employee Earnings Revealed: How the Company’s Compensation Stacks Up in a Competitive Industry

The average annual salary for Meta employees is $379,000

Meta has recently released its SEC filing, revealing that the median employee earned over $379,000 in 2023. While this is a significant amount, it falls short of the compensation offered by some Big Tech companies like Google and Amazon. Despite this, CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s total compensation in 2023 was $24.4 million. However, his net worth is primarily tied to his stock options rather than his salary.

Despite the attractive compensation at Meta, the company is undergoing significant changes. Zuckerberg has implemented a “Year of Efficiency” to maximize productivity through performance reviews and layoffs. This has resulted in Meta cutting 22% of its staff since 2022, with no end in sight. Although Meta reported strong earnings in its latest quarterly call, investors are concerned about the company’s plan to spend billions on AI technology.

While higher-level software engineers and researchers tend to make more than product designers and user experience professionals at Meta, there is considerable variation in salaries at the company due to its size and complexity. However, despite this variation, Meta’s median salary is still higher than many tech jobs overall. Additionally, while Google and Amazon offer above $300,000 in compensation for many positions, Meta’s median salary falls short of theirs but remains competitive within the industry.
