Metsä Group invests EUR 60 million in Simpele cardboard factory renovation

Metsä Board to invest 60 million euros in upgrading cardboard machine

Metsä Group has announced that it will be investing in the renovation of the folding carton machine located in Simpele as part of their previously announced investment program. The value of this investment is approximately EUR 60 million and will be spread over the years 2024-2026. This renovation will improve the quality of the folding board and increase production efficiency, as well as enable the replacement of fossil fuels in cardboard production.

The production capacity of the factory will increase by about 10,000 tons with this renovation, bringing the annual production capacity of Simpele folding carton to approximately 310,000 tons. This investment decision is part of a larger investment program announced on March 21 aimed at modernizing the Simpele cardboard factory, which will be implemented in stages over the next ten years.

Metsä Board, a part of Metsä Group, is committed to continuous improvement and innovation in their manufacturing processes to meet customer demands and environmental standards. With this renovation, they are not only enhancing the quality and efficiency of production but also contributing to sustainability goals by enabling the reduction of fossil fuels in the production process. The company believes that this investment will bring long-term benefits for both their business and the environment.
