Mexico’s Crackdown on Criminal Networks: Arrest of CJNG Leader’s Brother

El Mencho’s Brother, Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, Arrested in Mexico

Mexican authorities have made a significant arrest that has dealt a blow to the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as ‘El Mencho’. The National Guard of Mexico arrested his older brother, Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, ‘Don Rodo’, who was believed to be carrying out administrative functions within the criminal organization.

According to the National Detention Registry, the arrest took place in Autlán de Navarro, located in the state of Jalisco. The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) stated that Abraham Oseguera Cervantes was considered one of the main coordinators of the cartel’s logistical and financial operations, primarily involved in money laundering and overseeing drug trafficking and sales.

The CJNG has evolved from a small group of deserters from the Millennium Cartel into one of the most prolific and violent drug trafficking organizations globally. The United States has offered a reward of 10 million dollars for information leading to the capture of ‘El Mencho’, who is now considered one of Mexico’s most wanted criminals. The National Arrest Registry describes Abraham Oseguera Cervantes as a man with white skin, dark hair, and 1.70 meters tall.

Abraham Oseguera Cervantes was mainly responsible for overseeing drug shipments to the United States and controlling certain transportation routes. While he did not have a bloodthirsty profile or lead shock groups, his role was essential in the logistical operations of the cartel. According to security analyst David Saucedo, this arrest may have been carried out with extradition to the United States in mind given his past criminal activities.

Abraham Oseguera Cervantes had previously been arrested along with ‘El Mencho’ in San Francisco for selling heroin to undercover police officers. After serving his sentence, he returned to Mexico and continued to be involved in the operations of the CJNG. The cartel is known for its extreme violence and control over vast territories, expanding its operations across Mexico and internationally.

The origins of this dangerous criminal network date back to early 2000s when it emerged as a faction within Millennium Cartel before growing into a powerful criminal network with global connections. Today it represents one of Mexico’s most significant threats law enforcement efforts regionally due to its extensive firepower and control over drug trafficking routes.

In conclusion, this arrest marks another important step towards dismantling one of Mexico’s most dangerous criminal networks while highlighting ongoing efforts by Mexican authorities to combat drug-related crime.
