Michael Che’s Joking Skills Take a Backseat as Caitlin Clark Saves the Day on Saturday Night Live

Caitlin Clark Makes Surprise Appearance on ‘SNL’ to Call Out Michael Che for Disparaging Women’s Sports

During the Weekend Update segment on Saturday Night Live, Michael Che made a joke about University of Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark having her jersey replaced with an apron, which was met with groans and laughter from the audience. Clark herself then joined Che and Colin Jost at their desk, calling out Che for his frequent jokes about women’s sports.

Che and Jost acknowledged that Che often makes jokes about women’s sports, particularly basketball. Jost even shared a supercut of some recent jokes Che has made. However, both recognized that they have very different talents – with Che unable to play basketball like Clark and Clark unable to tell jokes like Che.

Clark then asked Che to read some jokes she had written about women’s sports, to which he reluctantly obliged. He delivered Clark’s jokes, including one about the WNBA team Indiana Fever and another referencing his own comedy special. Clark then gifted Che with an apron, personally autographing it for him.

As Clark left, she joked with Che about giving the apron to his girlfriend, to which he replied, “You don’t have a girlfriend, Michael.” The comical exchange highlighted the ongoing dynamic between Che’s jokes about women’s sports and the athletes themselves.
