Mike Quigley Calls for Advanced Grid Technologies to Keep Up with Energy Demand and Fuel a Sustainable Future

Quigley Commemorates Executive Order Paving the Way for Expanded Power Line Technology

In response to the Biden Administration’s announcement on strengthening America’s electric grid, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley of Illinois, Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, issued a statement highlighting the importance of investing in advanced grid technologies. Quigley has been advocating for modern technologies like high-performance conductors and dynamic line ratings since 2019, emphasizing their need to prepare for increasing energy demand resulting from factors such as onshoring of manufacturing, AI and data centers, and electrification of the economy.

In 2020, Quigley requested a Department of Energy case study on the benefits of power flow control, topology optimization, and Dynamic Line Ratings. The study led to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission mandating their expanded use. Quigley continues to advocate for further studies on bulk transmission efficiency and Dynamic Line Rating technology’s impact on retail power rates.

Quigley welcomes the Biden Administration’s efforts to bolster the grid and maximize investments in clean energy as crucial steps towards a sustainable energy future using advanced technologies. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for hours of operation.
