Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations sanctions Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight

The upcoming boxing match between Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 knockouts) and Jake Paul (9-1, eight KOs) has been officially sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. This was confirmed by Most Valuable Promotions on Monday afternoon. The heavyweight bout will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., over eight rounds of two minutes each, with the fighters wearing 14-ounce gloves.

In the co-feature, Amanda Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs), the unified featherweight champion, will face super lightweight champion Katie Taylor (23-1, six KOs) in a rematch of their first women’s main event at Madison Square Garden. Both fights will be streamed live on Netflix.

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, stated in a press release that Tyson and Paul signed up to fight each other with the goal of having a definitive outcome in a sanctioned professional fight. Over the past six weeks, MVP has worked with partners to meet the requirements set by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations for the sanctioning of this fight.

Mike Tyson is no stranger to boxing greatness; he was the youngest heavyweight titleholder in history when he won the WBC belt in 1987 at just 20 years and 4 months old. He held the undisputed title through 1990 and was also known as being the first heavyweight to simultaneously hold three major world titles: WBC, WBA, and IBF. Tyson last fought professionally in 2005 against Kevin McBride at Capital One Arena (then known as MCI Center) but failed to answer his bell after seven rounds.

Jake Paul rose to fame on YouTube before transitioning into professional boxing in 2020. In just two years, he made it onto Forbes’s list of highest paid athletes due to his earnings from three boxing matches that were estimated at $38 million combined. Jake Paul is also one of Most Valuable Promotions co-founders and boasts a massive following on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
