Missing in Action: Craig Monroe’s Absence from Detroit Tigers’ Broadcasts Amid Allegations of Child Sexual Abuse

Allegations lead to Craig Monroe being taken off TV broadcasts

Craig Monroe, a prominent member of the Detroit Tigers’ broadcast team, has been absent from television broadcasts since June 7-9 when the Tigers hosted the Milwaukee Brewers. The reason for his absence was confirmed by the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit, citing allegations made on social media.

On July 2, 2024, WDIV received a statement from Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers regarding the situation. They stated that they are aware of the social media allegations and are taking them seriously. Monroe has not been on the broadcast schedule since the allegations surfaced and will continue to be absent indefinitely. Any further inquiries should be directed to Monroe himself.

The accusations against Monroe were made by a woman on Twitter and Instagram, who alleged that he raped her when she was a child while staying with her family during his minor league career with the Port Charlotte Rangers. She also claimed that he engaged in sexual misconduct after leaving Port Charlotte, including during his time with the Tigers.

Monroe has not issued an official statement regarding these allegations. However, it is worth noting that his MLB career spanned from 2001 to 2009 and included stops in Texas, Detroit, Chicago (Cubs), Minnesota, and Pittsburgh. He played 672 games as a Tiger during his time in Detroit.

As this situation continues to unfold, it is clear that both the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit are taking these allegations very seriously and have made it clear that they will not have Monroe on broadcasts until further notice. It remains to be seen what consequences this may have for Monroe’s career moving forward, but one thing is certain – this story will continue to captivate fans of baseball across the country as more details emerge about this troubling case.
