N.C. State’s Magic Continues: Advancing to the Elite Eight After Defeating Marquette in Sweet 16

N.C. State continues impressive March Madness streak, triumphs over Marquette 67-58

In the Sweet 16 matchup against Marquette, N.C. State secured a hard-fought 67-58 victory and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in over three decades. The Wolfpack’s magical NCAA Tournament run continued as they won their eighth consecutive game since the start of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Leading the charge was Casey Morsell, who contributed 15 points to the winning effort. Mohamed Diarra also played a pivotal role with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Forward DJ Burns Jr. showcased his skills with a spinning layup and five assists in the winning effort.

N.C. State’s impressive performance in the Sweet 16 has positioned them as a strong contender in the South Region, with a record of 25-14 this season and recent momentum in the tournament. The last time they reached the Final Four was over four decades ago when they triumphed in the ACC Tournament before securing their first national championship title.

As N.C. State prepares for their Elite Eight matchup against either top-seeded Houston or No. 4 seed Duke, their hopes of making history are more promising than ever before.

The Golden Eagles struggled with shooting during their losing effort, making only 12.9% of their 3-point attempts and shooting just over one-third (33%) overall.

Kam Jones and Tyler Kolek led Marquette with 20 and 17 points respectively, but it was not enough to overcome N.C State’s determined play.
