Native Knowledge for the New Earth: CMC Celebrates Graduation of Ecosystem Science & Stewardship Students with Inspirational Keynote Speaker Forrest S. Cuch

The Sopris Sun hosts the 2024 Sustainability and Ecosystem Science Conference

CMC’s annual Sustainability & Ecosystem Science Conference is still open for registration, and attendees will also receive a recording of the event. This year marks a special occasion as it celebrates the graduation of the first cohort of Ecosystem Science & Stewardship students.

The conference’s theme for this year is “Native Knowledge for the New Earth.” The event will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in an online setting. The agenda includes a keynote address by Ute leader, elder, educator, and author, Forrest S. Cuch. In addition to his presentation, graduating students in Sustainability and Ecosystem Science will present their original research.

During his speech, Forrest S. Cuch will discuss how ancient Native American wisdom can influence a vision for the future. He will touch on important topics such as racism, environmental justice, and climate change. The conference is open to individuals who register on Zoom and is expected to attract participants from CMC’s nine-county district and beyond.

Attendees can choose from seven virtual breakout rooms to watch short presentations by graduating CMC Sustainability Studies and Ecosystem Science students. After the virtual event concludes, there will be in-person gatherings at various CMC campuses as detailed on the Conference landing page.
