Waipahu High School opens country’s first school-based health center

The Academic Health Center at Waipahu High School has recently opened, providing a state-of-the-art facility for students and staff. Principal Zachary Sheets emphasized the importance of the new center during the opening ceremony, highlighting its potential to improve the health and well-being of the school community.

Senior director of organizational development at The Queen’s Health Systems, Melia Abreu, guided a tour of the facility, showcasing its innovative design and capabilities. Students Leila Manibog and Althea Valenzuela posed in the reception area, enjoying the modern and welcoming space created for their health and wellness.

The Academic Health Center includes exam rooms equipped with the latest technology to provide quality healthcare services to students. Among the distinguished guests at the opening ceremony were Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke and Carl Vinson, director of workforce development for Hawai’i Pacific Health. Their presence highlighted the importance of this new center in providing essential services to the Waipahu community. The center is a valuable addition to the school, offering a holistic approach to student health and wellness.
