New Appointment: Gregory Schmidt joins as European Business Editor

New European Business Editor Joins The New York Times Company

We are thrilled to announce that Gregory Schmidt has been appointed as our new European business editor. During his time in the Business department in New York, Greg demonstrated exceptional versatility as an editor and writer, capable of handling a diverse range of tasks with ease and urgency. He possesses a remarkable talent for editing and writing news and feature stories, as well as managing a live blog effectively.

In his new role, Greg will collaborate with reporters across the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe to oversee coverage on topics such as European economies, clean energy transition efforts, and trade tensions. Additionally, he will be responsible for coordinating news from Seoul and assisting in getting stories started before the New York team is even awake.

Greg brings a wealth of experience to this position, having joined our Business copy desk in 2007 after working at The Miami Herald for seven years. His background includes writing on tech and video games, as well as a strong interest in real estate. His work on the Square Feet column sparked his fascination with real estate coverage, leading him to a reporting fellowship at Columbia University in 2022.

Originally from Southern California, Greg attended the University of Tampa for his undergraduate studies before pursuing graduate school at the University of Florida. We congratulate him on his new role as European business editor and wish him all the best in this exciting opportunity.
