New Era Ahead for the Patriots: Will Wolf & Co. Choose a QB at No. 3?

Eliot Wolf Reveals Patriots Willing to Make Deals in All Rounds of 2024 NFL Draft

Wolf & Co. is expected to remain put and choose a quarterback at No. 3 in order to kick-start a new era, according to most prognosticators. The de facto GM stated on Thursday that this year is particularly unusual with multiple quarterbacks likely to be selected in the top 5. He added that he would be “comfortable” selecting one of the top three or four QBs at No. 3, emphasizing that the Patriots are not obligated to pick a quarterback with their first pick.

Despite concerns about the Patriots’ roster, including significant changes following 24 years under Bill Belichick and the lack of a standout wide receiver, Wolf pushed back against the idea that it is not equipped to support a rookie quarterback. He highlighted the solidity of the offensive line, returning key players, players who are developing from the previous year’s draft, and additions made to the team.

Wolf expressed confidence in the support system in place for a new quarterback within the team. If he decides to go through with picking a quarterback at No. 3, it might not be surprising to see him attempt to trade back on Day 2 to acquire more picks (currently holding selections No. 34 and 68) for the team.

The decision by Wolf & Co. to select a quarterback at No. 3 should not be swayed by concerns about the surrounding circumstances such as lack of standout wide receivers or any other issues with roster changes following Belichick’s departure. It is crucial for them to make this decision based on what they believe will benefit their team as a whole.

If they decide on this route, it might not come as a surprise if Wolf tries trading back on Day 2 in order to obtain more selections for his team (currently holding picks No. 34 and 68). Ultimately, this decision will determine whether or not Wolfs & Co will usher in a new era for New England football fans
