New Guidance for Fighting the Flu and COVID-19: UH&CS Updates Its Policies at Case Western Reserve University

Updates in COVID-19 guidance from University Health & Counseling Services

Following the release of updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), University Health & Counseling Services (UH&CS) at Case Western Reserve University has made significant changes to its guidance for the community.

Effective March 2024, individuals are no longer required to submit positive COVID-19 test results to UH&CS, and a five-day isolation period is no longer necessary for COVID-19 infections. Instead, students, faculty, and staff are advised to follow the guidelines for any respiratory virus, including COVID-19 and influenza.

If you experience symptoms of a respiratory virus such as fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, or headache, it is important to stay home and away from others. You can return to your normal activities when you have not had a fever or symptoms for at least 24 hours and your symptoms are improving.

COVID-19 tests will continue to be available in the wellness vending machines for individuals with symptoms. Additionally, when resuming normal activities after staying home due to illness or exposure to an infectious disease, it is recommended to take extra precautions over the next five days to prevent the spread of infection. This includes wearing a well-fitting mask, practicing good hygiene such as washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
