New Interim Dean of College of Science Brings Decades of Research and Leadership Experience

Edwards Assumes Role as Interim Dean of College of Science

Cody W. Edwards has been appointed interim dean of the College of Science by Interim Provost Kenneth Walsh, effective July 1. Walsh expressed his confidence in Edwards, citing his extensive experience and dedication to research excellence, leadership, and student success as key attributes that make him well-suited for the position.

Prior to his current role as senior associate dean for faculty and academic affairs in the College of Science, Edwards spent nearly eight years as the executive director of the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation. In this role, he worked to strengthen the connection between education and research through collaborative projects.

Edwards’ appointment comes as Dean Fernando Miralles-Wilhelm transitions to a new role as president of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and vice chancellor for sustainability of the University System of Maryland. Walsh expressed his gratitude for Miralles-Wilhelm’s exceptional leadership during his tenure as dean, highlighting the growth in research, academic programs, student enrollment, and fundraising that the College of Science has experienced under his guidance.

With Dr. Edwards at the helm, the College of Science looks forward to continued success and advancement under his capable leadership. His wealth of experience and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly contribute to the college’s ongoing growth and success in research, education, and student support.
