New North Charleston Sports Complex Open for Business: A Beacon of Community Development and Fitness Enthusiasm

North Charleston Sports Complex to open its doors to the public on April 1

The new North Charleston Sports Complex, which cost $25 million to build, was officially opened on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This sports facility in North Charleston features five regulation-size gymnasiums for various indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, and badminton. Additionally, it includes five tennis courts that meet official U.S. Tennis Association standards, a roller rink for street hockey and roller-skating, and a 25-meter competitive pool that complements the North Charleston Aquatic Center in Dorchester County.

The new sports facility has replaced the long-standing Danny Jones Recreation Center, which underwent renovations to add more space and updates. North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess shared in an interview with WCSC that the Danny Jones Recreation Center played a significant role in his personal development, and he believes the new facility will have a similar impact on the youth in the community. Burgess expressed his belief that the new facility will help build minds and elevate young athletes, similar to his own experience at the former center.

Tj Rostin, the director of Parks and Recreation for North Charleston, highlighted the city’s commitment to recreation and providing opportunities for exercise and fun. Rostin emphasized that the facility is a place where the community can come together to watch kids play basketball and participate in various recreational activities. Currently, the outdoor facilities at the complex, including the roller-skating rink and tennis courts, are available for use. The pool will have a fee starting from April 1st when it opens for public use.

This new sports facility is expected to provide excellent opportunities for people of all ages to engage in physical activities while having fun. It also serves as an inspiration for those who grew up playing sports at Danny Jones Recreation Center like Mayor Burgess did. The community can now enjoy this new state-of-the-art sports complex with pride knowing it’s built to support their physical health and wellbeing while fostering their passion for sports.

In conclusion, North Charleston officials are excited about this new development as it marks another milestone towards improving recreational opportunities in their community. With its modern amenities and friendly atmosphere, this sports complex is set to become an essential hub for fitness enthusiasts of all ages looking for fun ways to stay active while having fun with family or friends.
