New Small-Business Support Center in Brentwood: Jacksonville City Council Purchases Property to Benefit Local Entrepreneurs

Business center to be built in response to community concerns over proposed liquor store location

On Thursday, Mayor Donna Deegan made a major announcement regarding a property in Brentwood. The property, located at 865 Golfair Blvd. across from the KIPP Voice Academy K-7 school, had faced opposition from neighbors who were against plans to turn it into a drive-thru liquor store. However, the property will now be repurposed as a small-business support center.

The Jacksonville City Council took a significant step in November 2023 by purchasing the property for $1.8 million with the intention of transforming it into a community or resource center that would benefit the neighborhood. This decision came in response to concerns raised by residents about the initial plans for a liquor store. The purchase marked a positive development and signaled that the city was taking steps to address residents’ concerns and improve the area.

As part of the small-business support center, the city plans to provide resources and assistance to local entrepreneurs, helping them grow their businesses and create jobs in the community. This move is expected to bring positive changes to Brentwood and provide much-needed support for local businesses.
