New York City Sees Rise in Mpox Cases, Concerns over More Severe Strain in Congo

Health Department reports significant rise in Mpox cases

In recent months, the New York City Health Department has reported a significant increase in cases of the ‘Mpox’ virus compared to last October. Concerns have also been raised about a more severe strain of the illness that has emerged in the Congo and could potentially spread to New York City.

It has been noted that 94 percent of the local patients affected by Mpox are gay and bisexual men. However, despite this, the number of cases still remains below the peak seen almost two years ago.
