New Zealand’s 2024 T20 World Cup Squad: Ready to Thrive in Challenging Conditions with Devon Conway’s Return and Kane Williamson’s Leadership

Kane Williamson to captain T20 World Cup 2024 squad for New Zealand with Devon Conway declared fit

New Zealand’s provisional 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup has been announced, with Devon Conway making a return to international cricket. Kane Williamson will lead the experienced squad as captain, after missing the last two T20I series due to birth and IPL commitments. Ben Sears has been designated as the 16th travelling reserve for the team.

The squad includes veterans Tim Southee and Trent Boult, with Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry being the only members who have not previously participated in a T20 World Cup. Fast bowler Adam Milne is unavailable due to an ankle surgery, while Kyle Jamieson is continuing his recovery from a stress fracture in his lower back.

Devon Conway, who was recently ruled out of the IPL due to a thumb injury sustained in February, is making a return to international cricket for the T20 World Cup. Kane Williamson, who missed New Zealand’s last two T20I series, is back as the team leader after the birth of his child and IPL commitments. Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi are also part of the squad.

Gary Stead, New Zealand coach, is confident that the team has selected players who can adapt to the varied conditions in the West Indies where the tournament will be held. He praised Matt Henry’s hard work and Rachin Ravindra’s impressive performance over the past year. He also highlighted Michael Bracewell’s recovery from a back injury and James Neesham’s inclusion in the squad after being part of recent tour of Pakistan.
