Newcomer to the Texas Rangers’ Roster, Langford Strains his Hamstring and Is Replaced by Infielder Ornelas

Wyatt Langford placed on the injured list by the Rangers

The Texas Rangers have placed rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. The decision was made before the start of a four-game series in Oakland and was retroactive to the day after Langford left a game in Kansas City.

To replace Langford, infielder Jonathan Ornelas has been called up from Triple-A Round Rock. Ornelas has been performing well at shortstop this season, hitting .278 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 24 starts. He made his major league debut last year, playing in eight games for the Rangers.

Langford, who was drafted fourth overall in last summer’s MLB amateur draft, had made the Rangers’ roster out of spring training. He has started 31 of the team’s first 34 games, splitting time between DH and left field. With a batting average of .224, one home run, and 11 RBIs, his most memorable play was an inside-the-park home run against Cincinnati on April 28. Among American League rookies, Langford ranks second in hits and third in reaching base safely.
