Northgate Mall: Resurrecting Lafayette’s Forgotten Business Hub?

Local business owners hope for business revival on the north side

In the past, the Northgate Mall in Lafayette, Louisiana was known as the place to be for local business owners. Today, however, it faces challenges as businesses have moved to the more modern South side of town. But a licensed cosmetologist, Christopher Rubin, who works at the mall reminisces about its heyday and expresses hope for its revival. Despite misconceptions about the mall being empty, there are actually 35 shops operating there, most of which are local businesses that provide valuable services to the community.

One such business owner is Ebony Roberts, a former teacher turned skincare business owner who has been at the mall for six years. She attests to the growth and potential of the area and emphasizes that there is a strong sense of community pride in the north side of Lafayette. By supporting local businesses like Cristal Henry’s Glam House that are starting to open at the mall, residents can help build up the area for future generations.

Business owners and locals alike are optimistic about the future of Northgate Mall and believe that with continued support and investment it can become a vibrant hub once again. They hope to preserve its legacy while attracting more businesses to the area so that it can thrive once again as a bustling center for both residents and visitors alike.
