Nurturing Mental Health: How Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls School Districts are Supporting Students During Mental Health Awareness Month”.

Chippewa Valley gearing up for Mental Health Awareness Month

During Mental Health Awareness month, the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls School Districts are placing a strong emphasis on providing support for students in need. Director of Mental Health and Resiliency, Jamie Ganski, stresses the importance of promoting positive mental health habits such as spending time outdoors, staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, surrounding oneself with positive relationships, immersing oneself in nature and having a positive role model in one’s life. These healthy behaviors can greatly impact a student’s mental well-being.

Ganski highlights the signs to look for in a student who may be struggling with their mental health, including absenteeism, frustration or difficulty focusing on schoolwork. By providing the necessary mental health support, students can improve academically as they are better able to concentrate and engage in the classroom.

Executive Director of Student and Special Education for the Eau Claire School District, Kaying Xiong, emphasizes that mental health issues are not inherently negative and that seeking help is essential for individuals experiencing challenges. By raising awareness and removing the stigma surrounding mental health, people can change their perceptions and approach to addressing mental well-being.

Xiong emphasizes that mental health is a journey and that communities and schools play a vital role in normalizing discussions about mental health. For those in need of support, resources such as texting HOPELINE to 741741 or dialing 988 for a suicide and crisis lifeline are available. By working together to promote positive mental health practices and open dialogue, individuals can create a more supportive environment for mental wellness.
