Oklahoma City on the Brink of Building the Tallest Skyscraper in America: Legends Tower’s Challenge and Potential Success”.

America’s tallest skyscraper project is designed to withstand tornadoes

Oklahoma City is set to become home to the tallest new skyscraper in America, with the construction of Legends Tower. The project will see the tower reach a height of 581 meters, making it approximately 40 meters taller than the current tallest skyscraper in the US, One World Trade Center.

Legends Tower was initially planned as the second tallest building in the United States, but designers and developers decided to aim higher, reaching for a height of 1,907 feet (581 meters). This will make Legends Tower about 40 meters taller than its predecessor and rank it as the sixth tallest building in the world, following China’s Ping An International Financial Center.

Surrounding Legends Tower will be three smaller buildings, each standing at 105 meters in height. These structures are expected to house approximately 1,750 residential apartments along with a luxury hotel. The total estimated cost of the project is reported to be $1.6 billion.

However, Legends Tower faces challenges that may affect its success. Financial viability is a concern given that Oklahoma City has a relatively small population compared to other cities where such towers are typically built. Another challenge raised during city planning meetings was vulnerability to tornadoes. To address this issue, designers plan to build a thick concrete core around the elevator shaft for stability and ensure that windows can withstand tornado impacts without damage.

Despite these obstacles, the Oklahoma City Planning Commission has approved the project paving the way for construction to potentially begin in July this year according to Scot Matteson who is developing the project.
