Oracle’s New Database Technology Revolutionizes AI-Driven Data Search with ‘Vector Search’ Capabilities

Oracle Enhances Database Technology for AI Chatbots

Oracle has recently unveiled an upgrade to its database technology called Oracle Database 23ai, aimed at making it more efficient with artificial intelligence. This update introduces “vector search” technology, allowing chatbots and other AI systems to quickly find data stored in corporate systems. Instead of simply matching keywords or phrases, this new database can be searched using concepts or ideas expressed in natural human language.

According to Juan Loaiza, executive vice president of mission-critical database technologies at Oracle, the vector search technology is particularly beneficial for asking complex questions with many requirements or contingencies. For instance, when searching for a used SUV with specific mileage and color preferences while considering heated seats as a feature trade-off, traditional database technology might struggle to understand the user’s needs.

With this new technology, users can ask detailed questions without the database filtering out relevant information based on strict keyword matches. Oracle is now making this database technology available on its cloud computing service and through cloud database partners like Microsoft. The company has not disclosed when it will be available for companies to run in their private data centers.

Existing Oracle Database customers will have access to this technology at no additional charge. Oracle aims to enhance AI capabilities in database systems to improve data search and retrieval processes for users.
