Anna Paquin, despite facing health challenges that have affected her mobility and speech, attended the red carpet premiere of her newest film, A Bit of Light. In an interview with PEOPLE, she expressed her gratitude for being able to work on projects she loves and highlighted the importance of independent filmmaking. At the age of 11, she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in The Piano.

Paquin also shared her joy in collaborating with her husband Stephen Moyer, who directed and co-starred in A Bit of Light. They previously worked together on True Blood and Flack. The movie follows Paquin’s character as she grapples with alcoholism and the loss of custody of her children.

On working with Moyer, Paquin emphasized his talent and skills, stating that she wouldn’t collaborate with him if he didn’t have what it takes. Despite their personal relationship, she stated that she is not sentimental when it comes to their work together. She added that it has been challenging but she is hopeful for a full recovery from her health issues affecting her mobility and speech over the past two years.
