Pause to Give Life: ECU Health’s Tribute to Organ Donors and Recipients on First Alert Weather Day

ECU Health to host flag-raising ceremony honoring organ donors and recipients

The “Pause to Give Life Event” is taking place on Wednesday morning at ECU Health Medical Center. This event is a tribute to organ donors and recipients, despite only half of North Carolina adults being registered as donors, there are 3,000 people in the state waiting for organ and tissue donations with over 100,000 waiting nationwide.

ECU Health will be raising the Donate Life Flag at 10:08 a.m., followed by a moment of silence that will last for 30 seconds. This symbolic time represents one donor’s potential to save eight lives. The ceremony will take place at the flag pole located at 2100 Stantonsburg Road at the ECU Health Medical Center. Even though it is a First Alert Weather Day and there might be rain, the hospital plans to proceed with the flag raising outside at the flag pole. If it rains, the ceremony will be moved to the hospital’s chapel.

This event serves as a reminder of how important it is to be an organ donor and how many lives can be saved through this selfless act. It also honors those who have already received the gift of life and their families who have lost loved ones due to organ failure.
