Winona high school students combine art and science skills through the restoration of vintage pinball machines

In recent years, the popularity of pinball machines has surged. These once forgotten relics from a bygone era are now being restored to their former glory by enthusiasts across the country. One such enthusiast is Winona Area Learning Center teacher Matthew Wagner, who saw the potential in this pastime and decided to start a new club for his students.

The Pinhawk Club is focused on restoring broken pinball machines to working order. The members of this club are dedicated to their work and have been working tirelessly to restore their first machine. They plan to auction it off on Saturday in an effort to raise funds for the club.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer recently spoke with Wagner and one of the student members, high school junior Corey Duncan, about their efforts and the impact of the club. In this exclusive interview, they discussed their passion for pinball and how it has brought them together as a community.
