Rakuten Mobile Teams Up with South Korean Operator Stage X for Technology Collaboration

Rakuten Mobile, Rakuten Symphony, and South Korean mobile network operator STAGE X have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a comprehensive framework for collaboration in technology and business exchange. The agreement aims to bring together the newest mobile network operators in Japan and Korea for technological collaboration and business synergies.

As Stage X prepares to provide 5G services in the 28 GHz spectrum as a new greenfield mobile network operator, the MoU will provide them with an opportunity to share industry knowledge and expertise from Rakuten Mobile. In addition, telecom solutions from Rakuten Symphony will be provided to support their business operations. Discussions will cover various aspects of Stage X’s upcoming projects, from business operations to technical areas. The companies will also explore cooperation for expansion to mid-band frequency and the development of a 6G-based national network from a long-term perspective.

Sangwon Seo, CEO of Stage X, expressed his desire for broad cooperation among the three companies. He stated that he was excited about collaborating with Rakuten Mobile, which is recognized for deploying the world’s first fully virtualized, cloud-native mobile network in Japan, ensuring stable telecommunication services. As Stage X builds its infrastructure for 5G services, he looks forward to collaborating with Rakuten and learning from their experience.

The CEO of Rakuten Mobile and President of Rakuten Symphony were thrilled at the prospect of collaborating with South Korea’s newest mobile network operator.
