Pope offers prayers for flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul

Pope Francis offered a heartfelt prayer on Sunday for the people of Rio Grande do Sul, who have been affected by severe flooding in recent days. The pontiff expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and those who were forced to leave their homes due to the natural disaster.

As of Sunday morning, authorities reported that over 80,000 individuals had been displaced and 15,192 were still in public shelters. At least 66 people had lost their lives and 155 others were injured as a result of the floods and overflowing rivers that affected 332 cities in the state. Authorities are investigating additional deaths to determine if they are related to the flooding.

Pope Francis showed solidarity with the victims of this natural disaster from the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City, where he delivered his prayer. He assured the population of his prayers and support during this difficult time. The situation in Rio Grande do Sul remains dire as efforts continue to address the aftermath of the floods and provide relief to those affected.
