Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has issued a warning that his country could lose the war if the United States does not approve a new military aid package for Kyiv. Congress is currently unable to approve the aid package due to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans.
Zelensky emphasized that without US support, Ukraine would struggle to not only win the war but also to survive as a state. He also expressed concerns that if Ukraine falls, Russia may target other European states.
On April 6, Zelensky previously mentioned that Ukraine was unable to launch a counteroffensive at the front due to a lack of ammunition. He specifically requested 25 additional Patriot air defense systems to help combat Russian air strikes. A bill allocating military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan totaling over $95 billion has been under consideration by the US Congress since the fall of 2023. Ukraine is expected to receive a significant portion of this amount. However, the bill has been blocked by Republicans who are insisting on including provisions related to the southern US border.
